A number of Burundian telecoms operators have joined forces to build
out a national fibre-optic backbone network in the small African
country, aided by the World Bank.

Taiwan’s government has given permission for China Mobile to open a
subsidiary on the island, making it the first mainland telecom Chinese
firm to establish a foothold there, according to Agence France-Presse
(AFP).

Reuters reports that Italian broadband provider FastWeb is seeking to
appoint an independent overseer for its wholesale unit to avoid a
court-appointed commissioner taking control of its entire broadband
operations as part of an investigation into alleged fraud.
