Streamlining Data for the Enterprise
18.06.2010
Interop presented an exciting opportunity for those in the technology and telecommunications space as it brought multiple players together in one location to provide informative presentation on new offerings, next-generation technologies and opportunities for the coming year.
TMCnet took advantage of the opportunity to speak with a number of key industry players at Interop this year, including Gigamon. Kevin Jablonski VP of Marketing & Business Development with Gigamon had an opportunity to visit the TMCnet media booth for an interview captured in this video.

Jablonski first shared information on Gigamon, pointing out the company develops and implements data access networks and focuses on a hardware appliance that allows companies to gain access to all critical data points anytime and anywhere within the network to filter and deliver to any tool that needs to analyze, record or assess the network. The company has experienced much success in the market.

In a data center or enterprise network, there are many needs for data; Jablonski asks – do you need to assess and analyze or archive, etc? If you attempt to do without Gigamon, he noted, you would typically go out and try to deploy tools that would be more demonstrative and it would require many tools to perform many functions. This process would be cost prohibitive.

The main goal for Gigamon is to access all that data from the network for hundreds of thousands of connections and then can plug-and-play with any tool. Companies still need tools, but Gigamon allows them to filter to only what they need.

This approach has been very successful for Gigamon, which just enjoyed a fruitful year, despite recession. The company continues to grow, enjoying 55 percent growth year over year for the last four years. In fact, 2009 was banner year and in Q1 of 2010, 70 percent growth has already been enjoyed.

What has driven that growth? “I think there are two main pieces that have allowed us to grow and continue to create demand for us,” said Jablonski. “One is the expansion of 10G networks, so you have people who have built these data centers; they see the data center as the new way or method for getting all this data flowing for their environment and many different features that are taking place in the data center.

“Many tools cannot keep up with the explosion of 10G. The other side is security. People really need to know where the threats are; they need to see multiple points on the network at any given time.”

What will drive success going forward? Jablonski believes it is the growth of data centers. The company attends quite a few CIO events and when they hear CIOs as they report on what is happening; how their applications are performing; threats to the network; whether or not it is time to expand, they have a better understanding of what they need to offer.
