A new survey from TeleGeography has discovered a rising trend in the number of VoIP subscribers throughout Europe.
Reported by VoIP News, it is estimated that some 28.9 million subscribers were active on the continent by the end of 2007.
The research stated that many European providers have launched VoIP services to compete with cable companies and carriers which are supplying the market.
In addition, the popularity of VoIP was found to vary "widely" in each country, with 34 per cent of households in France subscribing to the technology compared to 11 per cent of those in Germany.
"The European consumer VoIP market remains fragmented and highly diverse, featuring a wide range of provider types and business models," VoIP News suggested.
TeleGeography offers online databases and reports in topics such as competition in the wireless carrier industry and global internet traffic.
