Telecoms jobs | Voipproviderslist useful linksTelecommunications sector: main featuresThe purpose of telecommunications industry is to provide telecommunications that can mean transmitting data, voice, text, sound and video; transmission can be carried out either though wires or wirelessly. The industry experiences fast growth in new demand and supply, new technologies are being developed.Convergence is a word to describe telecoms and it pertains not only to technologies, but also to blurring of limits between telecoms and other 4 communication media. Broadcasting, voice telephony, on-line computer services once operated on different platforms and different support systems serving different markets. No longer so it is. Different media each used to be regulated by different regulators. Not anymore. The new companies like Google and Yahoo compete with telecoms providers. telcoms get actively involved with business domains such as communication and advertising. Main trends Value of the sector as a whole was €190.3 bln in 2005. Overall revenues amounted to €421.2 bln in 2005, of which an estimated €264 bln was produced by public telcos. most recent information indicates that overall revenue growth in telecoms in 2008 still amounted to 1.3%, despite of the crisis. Generally, mobile carriers seem to do better than fixed operators because of greater flexibility in costs and capital expenditures . Telecoms are the segment characterized by rapid growth . Most jobs there are in the categories like ‘clerks’ that comprise administrative, sales personnel, and other professionals (mostly in sales & marketing), IT professionals and technicians (mechanics and plant operators, see Table). the large portion of clerks in the NMS compared to the EU-15 is obvious. Employment is dominated by medium educated employees; this is true for the EU-15 (52%), but especially for the new Member States (71%). Low educated workers in the EU-15 and only 4% in the new Member States, have lost ground overall. Most of the low educated work in the post sector rather than in telecoms where most low-educated jobs have already disappeared during the last decade. |
