The Australian competition watchdog, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has commenced a review of fixed line incumbent Telstra’s retail prices following a request from the federal government, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

It is understood that the communications minister, Stephen Conroy, contacted the ACCC last month calling for the review of Telstra’s price control arrangements. The review is expected to study whether the existing arrangements need to be altered, and it is seeking submissions from the public and other stakeholders, with a view to completing its investigations by 12 March 2010. Any revised price control arrangements will apply from July 2010 to 2012.
