Airport of Madeira upgrades internal communications and data processing network
Enterprise Thales Portugal has commenced two new projects with the Madeira Airports administration, in order to deliver and install upgraded passenger information system and completely overhaul Madeira Airport's data center, deploying virtualization and cloud computing best-in-breed technologies.
The innovative passenger information system that will be launched at Madeira Airport by the end of current year is an interactive utility integrating digital public data, description and information, digital signage, and digital billboard, supported with the unique way-finder functionalities. Dedicated interactive kiosks will deliver efficient additional support to passengers, being attached with the internet connectivity and new displays to provide continuously changing volatile and freshly updated information on all kinds of flights. The Thales dedicated cloud computation collaborated line-up that will be installed at Madeira Airport will ensure access to an array of functions by means of virtual desktops. All the deployments required for the safe, secure and optimally configured operations of airport services will be readily accessible through a virtualized information platforms, associated with the dynamic and tailored virtual servers and storage utilities. As is being explained by officials from the Thales, the better performance will considerably improve the overall passenger experience and render useful all the elements of computing power, minimizing the airport's operating expenditures and cutting effectively its carbon footprint by leveraging the energy consumption. The solution will get all the advantages of Thales's expertise in provisioning data centers (in French cities of Elancourt, Toulouse, Valence and Cholet) and its line-up of cloud computing security tools. Since the beginning of year, Thales has finalised two other projects in Portugal as the integral element of the Madeira airports overhauling program; update of the data network to render better capacity and improve reliability and security. This project consisted with the organic convergence of VoIP services, attached by data and CCTV deployments into a unified networking infrastructure, and upgrade of the overall voice network, when VoIP is being extended by automated broadcasted messages within the airports.
