Kazakhstan's Alem Communications has selected Samsung Electronics as its exclusive mobile WiMAX-based wireless broadband network supplier.
Cellular-news reports that the partnership between Samsung and Alem began in September 2009, under which the Korean technology manufacturer has provided 2.5GHz mobile WiMAX solutions including base stations and network gateways. Alem launched commercial mobile WiMAX services in the city of Almaty, via its subsidiary Digital TV, on 1 May 2010, following a soft launch in March. Alem plans to expand the service, which is aimed at business users, to several other large cities later this year, including the capital Astana.

Alem Communications Holding was founded in 2008 by foreign and Kazakh investors. With a head office in Almaty, affiliates have a presence in all regional centres of Kazakhstan; services offered include digital and cable TV, IP telephony and internet.
