AT&T provides pan-European IP and VoIP network for scientific supplier
AT&T announced it is delivering VWR International, real World leader in the promotion of all kinds of scientific supplies, with a European network to handle both its data and voice packages. Brand new Internet Protocol (IP) based Virtual Private Network (VPN) ensures the connectivity across 50 sites in Europe and replaces VWR International’s existing frame relay based network.
The transition to the new network sees an advent of the technology cutting edge Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) internet application from AT&T to provide VWR International with a secure, robust and versatile network. Additional resilience and operational back-up is provided by AT&T’s managed DSL service. AT&T has connected the numerous sites of VWR International thru an MPLS based IP-VPN. Implementing the AT&T global network, the dispersed VWR International sites not only exchange data traffic, but also VoIP telephony. For most important sites the solution has built-in redundancy and utilizes AT&T’s managed xDSL as a backup instead of the more traditional ISDN lines. Security is a core element of the solution and includes network authentication of remote users via token authentication managed by AT&T and the management of a network-based firewall. VWR International employees who are out on the road or teleworking from home can easily login to the corporate network via PSTN/ISDN, a broadband Internet connection, GPRS, UMTS, Wifi, etc. VWR International can check the status and performance of its network at any time via the AT&T BusinessDirect portal. The whole solution is tracked down and monitored 24/7 by an AT&T helpdesk.Theo van Kruijsdijk, Director Information Services, VWR International:“The VWR business is associated with by a huge amount of rather low-value orders. This requires very efficient and highly automated business processes and maximum availability and reliability of the complete IS platform. VWR decided to team up with AT&T in Europe for several reasons. Clearly, their 100% service level availability is of utmost importance for us but also their dedication to make the partnership work, the convenience of business proceedings with them and their understanding of our requirements helped us make the proper selection. Stephan Bauer, European Infrastructure Manager, VWR International: “We selected AT&T because of its ability to deliver solutions which flexibly match the requirements of our business for cost-effectiveness, performance and resiliency at the same time.” Frank Verelst, Sales Vice President Benelux AT&T: “With this agreement , AT&T is proving not only that we can make international activities worldwide, but also that we have a strong position in Europe. VWR International is a purely European network, for which we have implemented a European MPLS-VPN and where we are introducing a lot of new features .”
