Britain’s fixed line incumbent BT Group has unveiled the next set of locations where it aims to deploy its next generation fibre-based broadband services, revealing that more than 300 exchanges will be upgraded between autumn 2010 and summer 2011.
It is understood that the upgrades will cover approximately four million customer lines, the bulk of which are in densely-populated areas, with more than two-thirds of the exchanges set to receive the new services located in London or the southeast.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, BT announced in July 2008 that it had set aside GBP1.5 billion (USD2.98 billion) for the rollout of its fibre-based network across the country, and the network is expected to reach up to ten million homes by 2012.
