M-Tel has announced it will be transferring its WiMAX frequencies to fellow spectrum holder Max Telecom for an undisclosed sum. M-Tel, Bulgaria’s number one mobile operator by subscribers, will instead focus its efforts on further developing its UMTS network.
TeleGeography’s 4G research service shows M-Tel received two blocks of 10.5MHz in the 3.5GHz band in January 2006 for USD3.84 million, and went on to launch commercial WiMAX services to business customers in October 2006 in the country’s three largest cities - Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv.

The deal still requires approval from the Bulgarian state Communications Regulation Commission.
