Armenian closed joint stock company CallNet (Kornet-AM) has announced the expansion of its WiMAX wireless network to the mining town of Kajaran.
The company says the rollout is being assisted by Armenian licensed network services operator GNC-Alfa, whose network is based on Fibre-Optic Cable (FOC) technology. Going forward Kornet-AM plans to extend its mutual collaboration with GNC-Alfa to further develop and improve its portfolio of services. As it stands, the telco’s WiMAX wireless network now covers 20 major cities in Armenia.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database writes that CallNet is owned by Russian telco Comstar United TeleSystems, which acquired a 75% plus one share holding in October 2006. In May 2010 Comstar announced it had completed a transaction to increase its shareholding in CallNet. Through the transaction, the Russian firm acquired a 25% minus one share stake in CallNet and now controls 100% of the company.
