State-run Thai telco CAT Telecom has told cellco True Move to stop offering 3G W-CDMA/HSPA 850MHz trial services, on the grounds that the privately-owned company has breached its build-transfer-operate (BTO) concession agreement with CAT, reports The Bangkok Post.
CAT president Jirayuth Roongsrithong said that True has been sent formal notification to stop marketing its ‘Wifi-plus-3G’ packages which include free trial usage of HSPA services on CAT's frequency spectrum, as CAT has detected violations of the trial service conditions, for example by installing more HSPA equipment than permitted in Surat Thani. All equipment used for the trial service must be transferred to CAT under the BTO agreement. CAT has given True Move permission to install up to 543 sites in Bangkok and surrounding provinces, 22 in Chiang Mai, 42 in Chon Buri, 35 in Phuket and 35 in Maha Sarakham. But True Move is seeking approval to install another 750 sites, Jirayuth said. ‘We will wait and see True Move's reaction. If the company still ignores the notification and continues with the trial service we will take more measures to deal with it,’ he warned.
