Gate-In Services Pvt Ltd, the consultants hired by Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) to study the possibility of licensing additional mobile frequency spectrum in the country, have completed their report and returned their findings, MyRepublica reports.
According to the online journal, Gate-In Services have recommended the regulator to license one new mobile operator in the country. It is understood the NTA will now recommend the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) the same.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, as at 31 December 2009 Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NDCL, or Nepal Telecom [NT]) was the leading mobile operator in the country with a total of 3.483 million GSM users, ahead of Spice Nepal Private Ltd’s (rebranded Ncell in March 2010) base of 2.201 million, while CDMA (Sky Phone) services rendered NT a further 602,120 connections, and helped push overall cellular penetration to over 20%. The NTA also reported a smattering of ‘other’ mobile users, including GMPCS (1,742) and W-CDMA (699) at the same date.
