Cyta has moves in digital sector

The Republic of Cyprus’s parliament has passed a law which effectively shuts out the country’s incumbent fixed telecoms operator Cyta from directly operating in the digital terrestrial television market.
State-run Cyta had made a bid for the second digital platform, set to be awarded in the near future, but new legislation leaves just two players in the running – a consortium of local TV stations, and a Greek company, LRG. The first digital platform has already gone to the state-owned Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation.

The new rules forbid Cyta from making a standalone bid for the second digital platform, although it is allowed to compete as part of a consortium.
