Philippines based telecoms network, Digitel says that it will increase its CAPEX this year by a further US$100 million from the US$250 million announced only last month.
"Really, it's the timing issue. We may program a capex of $250 million but this could change depending on growth issue," James Go, Digitel president and chief executive officer told the Business Mirror.

The capital expenditure this year will in fact match the US$350 million spent last year, mainly boosting the coverage of Sun Cellular, Digitel's cellular brand.

The company planes to boost its coverage this year with the deployment of between 1,400-1,600 new towers, ending the year with around 7,000 base stations.

"Every month, we are adding 100 cell sites. By the end of next year, the number of our cell sites will almost match that of the two other operators. We will have 8,500 to 9,000 cell sites by then," said Gokongwei. "Going forward, our capex may not be as aggressive. Next year, our capex may not have to be as much as this year. At the start of 2012, [the amount is likely to] go down."

The company is going to tap internally generated funds and European lenders to finance the US$350-million capex budget this year.

The mobile network ended last year with around 10 million subscribers, which the Mobile World analysts calculate gives it a market share of 13.4%.
