Japanese ICT-based business solutions provider Fujitsu Limited today announced that, in partnership with Germany’s Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke (NSW), it has signed off on a USD100 million submarine fibre-optic network cable for PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom Indonesia).
The new link connects the Indonesian islands Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Java, Bali and Lombok and will allow inhabitants living there to access broadband-speed internet services, including e-commerce, video, data, and voice telephony services.

The new cable, dubbed ‘JaKa2LaDeMa’, was successfully tested in April this year and will dramatically increase data transmission capacity between the islands, Fujitsu said in a press release. The cable is seen as critical to Bali, a key commercial centre for Indonesia, but will also afford business and residential users on Kalimantan and Sulawesi their first high-bandwidth services.
