Hot on the heels of its infrastructure sharing agreement with its nearest rival Banglalink, Bangladeshi mobile market leader GrameenPhone (GP) has signed a similar deal with the country’s third largest cellco by users, AKTEL, a subsidiary Malaysia’s Axiata group.

Local newspaper The New Nation reports that the latest bilateral tie-up is aimed at improving both GSM networks’ coverage in rural areas. The deal is expected to cut GP’s operational costs whilst AKTEL users will get better coverage via GP's nationwide infrastructure, according to the report.
