The City of Newberry within the past ten years has paid more than 20 million for infrastructure and associated utility overhauling to provide residents and businesses with the technology cutting edge services. Newberry implements a wireless collaborated network and VoIP system to support the Police and Fire, Public Works, Utility, Parks, Recreation & Tourism Departments. The City of Newberry is operating effectively at the maximum network performance and net coverage by deploying innovative network technologies -- 3G, 4.9GHz and 2.4GHz. having the mesh network incorporated throughout the city, local authorities were seeking to enable city workers to have a desktop or office in their vehicles. Prior the operational deploying the onBoard System, city workers had to be in close vicinity to an access point or return to the office to download needed data or information and finalise working documentation or reports. Without access to multiple networks and rapid switching gateways, VoIP could not have been operationally expanded to mobile workers. "We were looking at other solutions which were more expensive and required hours to configure and implement, but In Motion Technology has proven to be a well leveraged partner in our success," said Marc Regier, Information Services Director, City of Newberry, South Carolina. "The onBoard system will assist to the city to be ultimately responsive to the inquires of our residents and it will help us improve our productivity totally throughout across all departments." The onBoard System is a secure, easily manageable mobile communications system which creates a Vehicle Area Network, designed to support broadband applications in a mobile environment. The system enables real-time and bulk data transfers, and transports data for video, voice, vehicle location, mobile office and vehicle health monitoring. The onBoard Mobile Gateway makes vehicles to be the true mobile wireless hotspots, providing the connectivity by means of tablets, handhelds, laptops, bar-code readers, and video cameras in and around the vehicle over any wireless network. The onBoard Mobility Manager is a mighty network management system that allows operations to manage and monitor the health of the vehicle fleet , such as remote configuration, network coverage, and all related vehicle diagnostic data. The onBoard Connection Manager is a mobile-configured VPN server, ensuring VoIP mobility and sub-second switching in a multi-network environment aimed to operate with the mobile gateways and network management applications. This complete system provides the rapid, simple, and most cost-effective way to extend the enterprise network to the vehicle fleet.
