The Korea Communications Commission (KCC), South Korea’s telecoms regulator, has announced that it will extend the life of the Korea IT Fund, which was scheduled to end this year, with a view to support the country’s wireless sector.

In addition the scope of the fund will also be expanded to include the provision of financial support to venture companies in the mobile IT industry. According to JoongAng Daily, KCC chairman Choi See-joong, said that the fund, which totalled KRW300 billion (USD262 million) on creation in 2002 and now sits at around KRW370 billion, is expected to be increased to more than KRW500 billion, with the executive adding it would be ‘use[d] for businesses such as mobile advertisements, content and smartphones, especially as foundation money for startup companies working on those projects.’
