Digital security firm Gemalto has been selected by Japan’s KDDI Corp to provide User Identity Module (UIM) cards and a Trusted Service Management (TSM) solution for the cellco’s Near-Field Communication (NFC) trial programme.
The trials of NFC services, including mobile payments, transportation services, e-driver’s licences, e-ticketing, as well as information acquisition from smart posters, are taking place from May to December 2010.

It is understood a wide-range of industries including car manufacturers, airline companies, and cinema operators, are taking part in the trials.
