Malaysian telco Maxis Communications has said that it hopes to see revenue from the non-voice sector account for 50% of its total revenues within two to three years, according to the Star Online.

Maxis chief executive Sandip Das noted: ‘Potentially, we could see 50% of revenue coming from non-voice in 2012 or 2013 due to the growing use of internet.’ The executive said that at present non-voice revenues, including internet browsing and SMS, were responsible for around 32% of total revenue, up from approximately 12% five years ago. In addition Das claimed that there remains a large untapped section of the market, saying: ‘We will look into the availability and capability of devices and network including contents that are relevant to customers in Malaysia.’
