Telekom Austria’s cellular interests continue to report healthy growth, with a consolidated customer base of 18.9 million across its eight operations at year-end 2009, up from 17.8 million a year earlier.

All but one of Telekom’s international operators reported growth in the year ended 31 December 2009, with the exception being Bulgarian cellco MobiTel, which saw its customer base decline 0.8% year-on-year to 5.35 million. Domestically, Mobilkom Austria continued to migrate customers from pre-paid to post-paid services, seeing a 4.1% decline in the prior and a 12.6% growth in the latter on an annual basis. The cellco ended 2009 with a total of 4.83 million mobile subscribers, a rise of 7.5% year-on-year, 3.52 million of which were on contract-based tariffs. The company also reported 140,000 net new mobile broadband customers, ending December 2009 with 540,000. Telekom will announce its full annual results on 24 February 2010.
