Dow Jones Newswires reports that members of Venezuela's parliament have proposed launching legal action against domestic mobile operators including Movistar Venezuela, owned by Spain’s Telefonica, on the grounds of ‘fraud and bad service’.
Angel Landaeta, a National Assembly deputy, specifically identified Movistar as a potential target for litigation, alleging that the company's cellular coverage is ‘weak’, whilst it ‘unfairly’ rounds up charges when calculating users’ bills. In a statement on the legislature's website, the MP said other ‘violations’ by the country’s cellcos include allegedly preventing pre-paid users from dialling emergency numbers if their call credit balance is zero.
