State-owned Indian telco Mahanagar Nigam Telephone Ltd (MTNL) has said CAPEX for its 2010-11 fiscal year will be approximately INR13 billion (USD281.7 million), according to Dow Jones Newswires.
It is understood that the operator will look to use the funds primarily to enhance its footprint and upgrade its network, with Kuldup Singh, MTNL chairman, noting: ‘The expenditure will be on GSM expansion and bringing fibre to home, among other things.’ Increasing capacity on its network will also remain a priority, with the telco looking to reverse a trend which has seen it fall behind private players in terms of monthly subscriber additions. Peeyush Agrawal, principal general manager of MTNL, said: ‘We can add about 200,000 more wireline subscribers because the existing capacity is about 600,000 and we have about 400,000 [users].’
