BTRC sues Aktel for illegal VoIP business

The case was filed on Thursday night after Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) seized sophisticated equipment used for illegally running VoIP business from the head office of private mobile phone operator Aktel at Gulshan in the capital.
A Rab official seeking anonymity said the case was filed against the company and not against any particular official aiming to realise a huge amount of compensation from the company through legal process.
Sources in Gulshan Police Station said a BTRC assistant director filed the case with the police station under the Bangladesh Telecommunication Control Act.
A Rab official following the drive on Thursday told The Daily Star that using those equipment, Tk 180 crore can be earned annually depriving the government of its revenue.
Aktel provided the VoIP facilities to five companies--Future Data Network, Brothers International, Orbitar Technologies, Sun Trading, and Islam and Brothers--for running the illegal business.
