Expansion and Transformation in the VoIP IC Market
2007-01-23

Research and development in the world of technology is aiding large-scale manufacturing and deployment of new and improved high-tech consumer goods and services worldwide.
On the other hand, this technological boom is rendering the antecedent innovations obsolete. Gadgets and services, once high in demand, are now being considered as outdated.
In-Stat, pioneers in research and analysis of trends in the field of communication and technology, in their recent study have noted this phenomenon within the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) IC market.
According to its report, with IP services being made accessible and available to Internet users world over, the VoIP IC market is certainly expanding. With an increase in the number and quality of services offered, its consumer bank has structurally expanded.
However, simultaneous innovations and enhancements in its current features indicate a transformation in the manner, the present technical know-how would be applied to the networking process in the near future.
Supporting the observations made by the research, In-Stat analyst Norm Bogen said in a press release that “new forms of interconnection at both the edge and the core ultimately mean VoIP chips will disappear at the network level, as VoIP fulfills the prophecy that someday it will be ‘simply another application on anIP network.’”
“Tomorrow’s IP phones and the semiconductors used to produce them will clearly be very different from today’s business-oriented sets,” he added.
The findings also suggest that in the years to come wireless and video will pose as strong substitutes. It will challenge the existence of providers using chip-based technology.
The research analysts observed the following:
--Currently IP phones contribute nearly 16% of the total VoIP chip revenues, which by 2010 are expected to grow up to 60%.
--VoIP IC, presently generating revenues worth $ 613.7 million, would yield $ 2.63 billion by 2010.
--By 2010, a mere 13.6% of the total revenues will be attributed to infrastructure revenues from VoIP chips.
Analyzing and facilitating the intricate interactions between the end-users, equipment manufacturers, carriers and VoIP chip producers, the research provides useful insights into the ripple effect observed throughout the value chain … in depth understanding which is essential to forecasting the future of the wireless and multimedia markets.
Conducted by a team of skilled In-Stat Networking Technology Service analysts, the research makes certain predictions for the year 2010 about the VoIP IC revenues to be generated by various market segments, IP phone IC, and VoIP CPE IC port shipments and the revenues these would yield.
For this research, titled “VoIP chips: Preparing for a Wireless Multimedia Future,” the analysts extensively studied the VoIP semiconductor market, communications and networking merchant IC market trends, with the help of In-Stat’s extensive database comprising of equipment and subscriber forecasts. This study holds key to the future ofLAN , WAN, MAN and access systems.
A well-established name in the field of research, In-Stat aids enterprises worldwide in making strategic business, product and technology decisions. Its latest insights promise technology vendors, professionals and market specialists, incisive knowledge of futuristic market trends and opportunities.
