FirstHand Dual-Mode Devices Validated with BroadSoft VoIP Platform 2006-10-17
FirstHand Technologies has completed vendor-validated testing of the enterprise feature set on its mobile dual-mode devices with BroadSoft’s BroadWorks VoIP platform. The company made the announcement at the BroadSoft Connections 2006 Executive Users Conference that its dual-mode WiFi/cellular devices work with BroadSoft’s VoIP application software.

The testing validates FirstHand’s enterprise feature functionality, including the ability for callers to see the line status of other mobile workers. Callers may also share mobile/deskphone lines, enabling hold on any mobile device and pickup on any BroadWorks desktop instrument and vice versa, and voice mail functionality. BroadSoft customers may perform the same activities from their mobile devices as they do from their enterprise desk phones as well.

FirstHand had announced interoperability testing between BroadWorks and the FirstHand Mobile Console software client for WiFi and dual-mode devices in June. The Mobile Console offers personal command and control of communications services over WiFi or WiFi and GSM and WiFi and CDMA network interfaces. It is network aware and offers a unified GUI as well as support for Shared Line Appearance, consolidating WiFi and cellular identities to offer a seamless end-user experience.

“In addition to extending BroadWork’s functionality using the FirstHand Mobile Console, FirstHand Technologies is the first to deploy BroadWork’s Shared Line Appearance functionality on mobile devices,” said David Hattey, president and CEO of FirstHand Technologies. “I am excited to announce that the FirstHand Mobile Console is now ready for evaluation from FirstHand Technologies. Interested parties should contact us for more information.”

We believe our partnership with BroadSoft will provide a stronger incentive to customers to invest in and stay with the BroadWorks platform,” added Hattey. “And, we’re also expecting to announce OEM partners that will bring this to market in the near future.”

“Our business customers are demanding solutions for their increasingly mobile workforces,” said Scott Wharton, vice president of marketing for BroadSoft. “Fixed-mobile convergence services are in demand now. FirstHand Technologies’ expertise in mobilizing the enterprise workforce makes the company an ideal partner.”
