KVH migrates to Nortel VoIP NGN

In order to meet the emerging needs of enterprise customers seeking IP-based, value added services and to expand sales, KVH is upgrading its current optical network infrastructure to a next generation IP network. The new network will be designed as a single integrated platform to simplify operations and offer expanded communications services that can be used by many types of terminals running a multitude of applications.
At the core of the Nortel solution for KVH is the Nortel Communication Server 2000-Compact, a scalable, reduced-footprint softswitch supporting VoIP protocols and providing an investment-protecting evolutionary path to a range of other services KVH is planning for the future. These plans include hosted IP business voice services, collaboration and unified messaging to enable access to voicemail, e-mail or fax from any touchtone telephone or desktop PC, the company revealed.
KVH is also deploying Nortel's Universal Signaling Point, the signalling gateway between circuit-switched and IP networks, and the Media Gateway 15000 for the delivery of toll-quality voice and global VoIP applications on a carrier-grade, multiservice data platform.
