New utility aims to solve VoIP DHCP and DNS glitches

A problem, such as the potential that accelerated enterprise VoIP deployments have on identity infrastructure elements such as DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) and DNS (Domain Name System). That's why I went "hmm, he has a point" when I read Rick Kagan's comments today on the U.K. site Techworld.
Kagan is vice-president of marketing at Infoblox, a developer of infrastructure identity appliances and solutions. "Fifty percent of VoIP deployments have problems because of DNS [which resolves IP addreses] and DHCP [which issues IP addresses on the LAN]," Kagan tells Techworld's Peter Judge. Peter writes that according to Kagan, giving VoIP phones to all users effectively doubles the demand on both of these services, and breaks in service to a phone running real-time communications, will be more noticeable than to a PC.
Infoblox has just debuted a package for those adding VoIP to their networks. Entitled Network Services for VoIP package, the $4,995 offering is positioned by Infoblox as a utility that uses dedicated hardware to increase the speed and reliability of DHCP and DNS.
