Paid VoIP Users in China Will Exceed 70 Million by 2011 2007-01-17
China`s telecom industry, fueled by GDP growth of 8 to 10 percent over the next five years, will continue to grow on all fronts. The total number of Chinese broadband subscribers will be 144 million by 2011, and paid VoIP services adoption will dovetail with broadband growth, according to The Dragon Market: VoIP in China 2007 - 2011.

Currently, VoIP in China is defined as any call transformed or converted to IP at any point during its transmission (“IP Inside”), including calls made with special IP calling cards. In the U.S., VoIP calls are commonly defined as either initiating or terminating via VoIP endpoints. “ATLANTIC-ACM`s new forecast for China reveals that for the latter type, the total number of subscribers will rapidly grow to 70 million, provided that China, as is expected this year, eases its restrictions on VoIP termination to the public switched telephone network (PSTN),” said Charlie Reed, ATLANTIC-ACM analyst covering the VoIP sector.
