VoIP expansion to grow at 25 per cent per year

Worldwide VoIP equipment revenue will rise to $ 11.9 billion in 2010, expanding at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 24.7 percent from $ 3.95 billion in 2005, as presented in the figure below and attached.
The VoIP market encompasses three user segments: Private Branch Exchanges (PBXs) for enterprises, infrastructure operated by service providers and residential-access equipment. At the end of 2005, the PBX segment accounted for 46 percent of VoIP equipment revenue, while infrastructure and residential gear each took a 27 percent share.
"The enterprise PBX market has been undergoing a major transformation, migrating from Time Division Multiplexing (TDM)-based standalone networks to employing IP-based networks, which can be converged with enterprise data networks," said Steve Rago, principal analyst for the Networking and Optical service at iSuppli Corp. This transition is designed to reduce operating expenses and to increase functionality.
"Because of these factors, PBX/enterprise equipment sales will rise to $ 5.6 billion in 2010, increasing at a CAGR of 25.8 percent from $ 1.8 billion in 2005. This growth will allow the PBX/enterprise segment to maintain its status as the largest VoIP equipment market, at least through 2010," Rago added.
