VoIP tapping developed

The Swiss newspaper Sonntag Zeitung reports the country''s department of the environment, transport, energy and communications (UVEK) has called in a company to develop a tool for tapping VoIP calls.
A program has been developed, by ERA IT Solutions, that acts like a Trojan and can record conversations and send them to a remote user.
Sonntag Zeitung claims the development of the program has been kept secret due to the associations between Trojans and hackers.
Riccardo Gubser, managing director of ERA IT, told the paper: "This program is exclusively intended for the use by [government] authorities and it will only be sold to authorities."
It is also claimed that the program could use a computer''s microphone to monitor the user when no calls are being made.
Currently there are doubts in Switzerland over the legal status of the Trojan but its use has to be cleared by a judge.
There are also fears that if the program can avoid security software, hackers will be able to develop similar Trojans to attack computers.
