NTT Communications (NTT Com) of Japan yesterday announced a significant increase in the data transmission speeds available on its global IP network between the US and Japan, upping maximum transmission to 300Gbps.

In a statement NTT Com noted that traffic loads between the two countries equate to some of the heaviest data volumes handled by carriers with global IP backbones. With that volume of traffic not expected to ease anytime soon, NTT Com has increased capacity on the US-Japan route to cater for growing demand for higher-capacity transmissions between the two countries.

In October 2009 the Japanese company acquired Pacific Crossing Limited, which operates the trans-Pacific undersea cable network PC-1. The purchase afforded NTT Com full control of the 13,050 mile PC-1 trans-Pacific submarine cable, which provides high reliability and low latency between Japan and the US.
