Mexico's Secretario de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT) has confirmed that it will not renew the WiMAX licence of alternative internet provider MVS Comunicaciones, BNamericas is reporting.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the SCT had previously indicated it would not renew the 2.5GHz band concession, which covers at least eight cities, including the key markets of Monterrey and Guadalajara, after the regulator claimed that MVS had failed to fully utilise its spectrum allocation.

In its latest, and apparently final, decision on the matter, the SCT reiterated its claims of poor spectrum utilisation by the operator, while also adding that global trends suggest that the frequencies would be put to better use by technologies such as Long Term Evolution. MVS had previously countered the government’s claims by arguing that the state’s indecision over whether to renew its licences had held up investments in deploying new services.
