Spain’s Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio has revealed its intention to distribute spectrum suitable for high speed mobile data services, according to Dow Jones Newswires.
The ministry has announced that it expects to hand out frequencies in the 800MHz band, which had previously been used for analogue television services, while it also intends to redistribute spectrum in the 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands. While it remains unclear however as to how the government will allocate frequencies, with an auction for the 800MHz band widely expected, the state has said that the process will take place in 2011.

Meanwhile, with a view to examining the possible methods open to it, the government has called on telcos to put forward opinions on how the redistribution process should be tackled; a deadline of 15 July for submissions has been set.
