According to a report by local daily Prime-Tass, state-backed conglomerate Svyazinvest is targeting a consolidated 56% share of Russia’s broadband market in terms of subscribers across its subsidiaries by year-end 2010.
The company, which owns seven ‘mega-regional’ operators providing integrated telecoms services nationwide, estimates that it claimed around 49% of the broadband market at the end of 2009, with over seven million broadband customers, a 37% year-on-year growth. Svyazinvest expects its Sibirtelecom, Uralsvyazinform and Far East Telecom (Dalsvyaz) units to lead growth in the twelve months to 31 December 2010.

As reported by CommsUpdate on 21 October 2009, Svyazinvest is currently in the process of combining long-distance operator Rostelecom with its seven mega-regional operators: Center Telecom, North-West Telecom, Volga Telecom, South Telecom, Uralsvyazinform, Siberia Telecom (Sibirtelecom) and Dalsvyaz, creating a single, national network.
