T-Mobile USA has announced that it expects to have 100 metropolitan areas covered by its 3.5G network by the end of 2010.
Neville Ray, senior vice president of engineering and operations for T-Mobile USA, said the performance of the company's new HSPA+ network will be very competitive over the next few years with next-generation networks its rivals are building, including Long Term Evolution (LTE) from Verizon Wireless.

‘The performance level we are seeing on this network is very, very exciting,’ Ray said during a news conference at the CTIA trade show in Las Vegas. The HSPA+ network will cover approximately 180 million people by the end of the year, he said. The technology is already live in some regions, including the New York metropolitan area and the Washington DC suburbs, and will be launched shortly in Los Angeles.
