Ecuador's government has confirmed that state-owned mobile operator Telecsa (Alegro PCS) will be absorbed by fellow state-run company, fixed line incumbent Corporacion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT), reports Telecompaper.

Back in January, Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa gave an ultimatum to Alegro to improve its efficiency and reduce losses, estimated to amount to over USD200 million, whilst recent news that the cellco had found a potential strategic partner in the shape of Venezuelan telco CANTV has not yet been followed with any other developments such as a fresh capital injection.
