Mexican broadcaster Televisa has reportedly submitted a proposal for the acquisition of a stake in digital trunking operator Nextel de Mexico, BNamericas is reporting.

Televisa is understood to have sent the proposal to the Mexican antitrust watchdog, the Comision Federal de Competencia (Cofeco), which is set to discuss the matter on 11 February, prior to any formal announcement being made about the potential purchase.

Televisa meanwhile has declined to comment on the rumour, although this would not be the first time that the company has been linked to an interest in expanding its range of services to mobile voice. Televisa, which owns cablecos Cablemas and Cablevision, currently offers triple-play bundles of fixed line telephony, high speed internet and cable TV, but has long been thought to covet offering quad-play bundles. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, in June 2009 it was reported that Cablevision was considering bidding in the government’s long-delayed wireless spectrum auction, a consideration that was reiterated in November that year.
