Indonesian mobile operator PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) is targeting growth in its mobile broadband user base this year to offset stagnating revenues from traditional voice telephony and SMS services.
The company’s president Sarwoto Atmosutarno is quoted as saying that the firm expects data services to account for more than 10% of total revenues in 2010, up from 7% last year. He went on to say ‘We aim to keep increasing it in the coming years,’ the Jakarta Globe reports.

Despite an increasingly saturated market, Sarwoto still sees opportunities for subscriber growth and is targeting 103 million users this year, up from the current figure of around 85 million. In order to reach its data revenue goals the company is investing IDR13 trillion (USD1.42 billion), of which 60% has been set aside for infrastructure development, including LTE and broadband wireless technology.
