Telus Communications yesterday launched a new suite of IPTV and high speed internet services under the ‘Optik’ umbrella for customers in British Columbia and Alberta, based on fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) infrastructure and xDSL last mile connections.
‘Optik TV’ offers a range of new features based on Microsoft Mediaroom software, whilst ‘Optik High Speed’ gives users internet access speeds of up to 25Mbps with free Wi-Fi connectivity within the home. Optik TV features include ‘PVR Anywhere’, which networks all TVs in the home with one multi-tuner Personal Video Recorder (PVR) allowing pausing of a recorded programme in one room and resuming in another; the PVR can also record up to three programmes simultaneously.

Optik users also get video-on-demand (VoD), Picture-in-Picture browsing and Call Display on the TV screen. In the near future Telus says it will add Remote Recording, which allows programming of the PVR via a wireless smartphone or an online computer.
