Brazilian telecoms operator Telemar Norte Leste (Oi) hopes to achieve 100% coverage of fixed broadband services in operating concession areas by the end of 2010, BNamericas reports, citing a quote from company president Luiz Falco, as covered in the Agencia Estado newspaper.
The telco operates nationwide with the exception of Sao Paulo state. Oi has presented a plan to the government in which it hopes to spearhead a drive to make broadband services more readily available to the population. Under the plan, the government may partner with private companies to coordinate the launch of a federal broadband plan.

Falco notes that the government is looking to use four national backbones to offer broadband services nationwide. The existing infrastructure belongs to Oi, Embratel, Intelig and Eletronet.
