According to Reuters India, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended ending restrictions on telecoms firms from selling majority stakes within the first three years of being licensed.
The recommendation, which has to be accepted by the telecoms ministry before it becomes law, would pave the way for consolidation in the world’s fastest growing telecoms market. The TRAI also said that telecoms firms such as Bharti Airtel and Vodafone should pay a one-time fee for holding more than 6.2MHz of spectrum.
