China Mobile, the world’s largest wireless network operator by subscribers, ended the decade with 522.283 million customers, an increase of 65.033 million in twelve months. Of the total, 3.408 million were connected to its 3G network, which is based on the homegrown TD-SCDMA standard.

China Unicom said that by 31 December 2009, subscribers to its 2G, 3G, fixed-line and broadband network topped 144.845 million, 2.742 million, 102.822 million and 38.55 million respectively. In December alone, the carrier added 640,000 2G users, 920,000 3G users and 219,000 broadband users, but lost 2.11 million fixed-line customers. China Telecom, meanwhile, reported 188.56 million local access lines in service, a decrease of 19.79 million year-on-year, while broadband subscribers climbed 9.19 million to 53.46 million. Telecom’s mobile base ended December at 56.09 million, up 28.18 million compared to the start of the year; it did not report 3G customer numbers.
