Prague-based mobile operator Vodafone yesterday announced the launch of high speed 3G/3.5G mobile internet services covering the whole of Brno and 70% of Prague’s population, using High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology supplied by Huawei.
In a press release, the Czech cellco said it hopes to roll out high speed mobile broadband services to the rest of the capital by the end of June, and that within a year its 3G/3.5G network will be available ’in all regional cities and tens of other towns’. In an effort to stimulate uptake of the new service, Vodafone is offering customers in the two cities the option to try 3G out for one month free of charge. ‘In the next twelve months, we will gradually roll out high speed mobile Internet in 30-40 towns, including all regional cities.

The priority for us is to deliver the best customer experience for both voice and data services,’ said Pavel Kos, Vice-President for Technology at Vodafone Czech Republic. Vodafone’s HSPA network allows for mobile internet connections up to 7.2Mbps (download) and up to 2Mbps (upload). In addition, the cellco offers 2.5G EDGE network coverage to more than 95% of the population.
