VoIP provider Skype offers free WiFi access during Internet festival in UK
Skype has accepted all the expenses upon itself to deliver Internet VoIP access free across the UK during the Internet Week festival. The festival, which continues within the week from 8 November, is the first time held event outside the United States , with a variety of prominent enterprises showing up, including Google and Yahoo. Realizing this could be a unique opportunity to boost up its VoIP services, Skype has decided to offer everyone in the UK free WiFI access.
Skype is delivering free WiFi access as integral part of the Company’s ‘’pay-as-you- go’’ Internet access option, which users have to par up in a similar mode to the Skype Out VoIP service. For the other days of the week, customers will not have to pay up in order to use Skype Access - all that's needed is to find a workable WiFi spot.

In recent months some gossips have circulated that Skype is readying itself for an initial public offering (IPO). The enterprise, which was partly sold off to private investors by Ebay in 2009, has to do something to promote its revenues, in a hopes to attract more investors in an IPO.

Offering free WiFi might not directly lead to monetary benefits, but Skype probably looks forward to enlarge a percentage of users who like the service, and will continue to use it. Associating itself with large events such as Internet Week should also help it grow its brand into what some might believe is the only VoIP solution out there. However for the moment, Brits will be happy just to get some free WiFi, if they can find a suitable hotspot.
