Dominican Republic-based WiMAX operator Wind Telecom has announced that it has inked a deal with vendor Aptilo that will see the latter provide its WiMAX CSN System to support the migration of Wind’s WiMAX services to radio equipment provided by Samsung Electronics.
The deal will support Wind’s coverage expansion in the capital Santo Domingo, as well as in the country’s second largest city, Santiago. Further geographical expansion is also expected, with Wind aiming to add other cities on a gradual basis. Commenting on the deal, Wind CEO Manuel Bonilla, said: ‘With the flexibility to integrate with literally any ASN vendor of choice, Aptilo Networks has helped us aggressively expand our WiMAX service ... Also, Aptilo's solutions help us stay one step ahead by enabling us to leverage Wi-Fi as an additional revenue-generating business model.’
